FAQ
Treatment for Pigment:
Targets melanin in pigmented lesions.
Absorbs light energy, breaking down pigmented cells.
Immune system flushes damaged cells, revealing lighter skin.
Treatment for vascular lesions:
Uses specialised light energy absorbed by blood vessels.
Causes blood to heat up and coagulate, destroying targeted vessel.
Over time, body's natural healing processes remove destroyed vessel.
The number of recommended treatments is a matter of personal preference and depends, among other things, on the type and severity of the discolouration. After the very first treatment, noticeable results can be seen. However, to get the best results, it is advised to complete the following number of sessions:
Pigmented Lesions: 2-5 Treatments spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart.
Vascular Lesions 3-6 Treatments spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart.
Minimize sun exposure three to four weeks before treatment.
Apply high SPF sunscreen a month prior to treatment.
Discontinue sun activators and chemical self-tanning creams two weeks before treatment.
For beards, shave the area the day before the session.
Failure to shave may result in a fee of R50-R200 or booking rescheduling.
Use sunblock to prevent post-treatment pigmentation.
Use recommended products to enhance AFT treatment.
Avoid heat exposure for up to seven days.
Avoid scratching treated skin.
Avoid picking scabs to prevent secondary infection.
Use mineral makeup post-treatment.
Avoid exercise for 12 hours.
Use cold compresses for post-treatment.
Not observing the guidelines especially related to sun exposure may lead to a transient but long-lasting hypo/hyperpigmentation that may last on the average 3 months.
On sensitive areas, oedema may develop but will remain no longer than 2 days.
Some spots may lead to a purpura that will remain 3-5 days after the session. It will then be very important neither to rub the skin nor to expose it to the sun.
For Vascular Lesions it is possible to have swelling followed by redness that may subside within a few days. A good reaction would be to see an immediate darkening of the vessel and oedema surrounding the vessel.
For Pigmented lesions the lesion will go darker before it goes lighter. The lesion will go darker before it goes lighter. Within two to three weeks of treatment, the lesion will either begin to scab and fall off, or the skin will absorb the pieces. Importantly, you should not exfoliate at home.
